Entrepreneurial Conference: A Q and A Session with Robert Gay

Because of various other responsibilities, the only session I was able to attend in full was the question and answer session with Robert Gay. Elder Robert C. “Bob” Gay is the cofounder and CEO of Huntsman-Gay Capital Partners, a billion dollar private equity firm located in Palo Alto, California. He was also called as an Area 70 in 2008. His presentation provided insight into a great and humble servant of the Lord who was greatly blessed in business and in life for his service.

The main purpose of his speech prior to the question and answer session was to express through his life stories how the Lord will bless you for being honest in business, no matter what the world says. He provided examples of his service for others, such as when a friend needed two million dollars. Elder Gay gave it to him, and his friend promised to repay the debt. by no fault of his own, circumstances arized that made him incapable of returning the funds. Throughout the years his friend got sick. On his deathbed, he called Elder Gay to say he would repay him. Elder Gay prayed fervently about the matter and the Lord told him, "That is my money, not yours. Let it be." With that, Elder Gay visited his friend's family and told them that all was forgiven. He has never looked back, except to be grateful for the experience the Lord had given him. This experience and several others he shared were great learning opportunities for us to see how the Lord blesses His servants beyond the understanding of the world.
